The
following is the text of a presentation that Yvonne Emmerson-Peirce
recently distributed to local Salisbury businesses.
"I
want to work for you, your business and Salisbury District
to the very best of my ability. I want Salisbury to have a
thriving business and living community that will prosper and
meet the challenges of this new century"
A positive
future - A vision for Salisbury
Continue
to strengthen the partnership approach with the Economic
Development Unit at Salisbury District Council and
local businesses. The Liberal Democrats introduced the Economic
Development Unit when they took control of Salisbury District
Council in 1995. It is recognised as being a major asset
to the local business community and allows us to compete
for inward investment and attract and retain high quality
business and industries that will compliment the area.
Continue
to fight for an adequate transport solution for
Salisbury and South Wiltshire. Unrealistic solutions have
been promised for years that can never happen for sound
environmental reasons. Salisbury District needs alternative
solutions now.
Liberal
Democrats believe in a light touch approach to regulations
regarding business. We would cut down on red tape and unnecessary
bureaucracy.
Work
with Tourism 2000, English Heritage and other interested
parties to ensure tourism is an opportunity for Salisbury.
Where we keep the local infrastructure for local people
and make Salisbury an attractive and safe City for the visitor.
Ensure
that Britain maintains the leading edge. That our
young people are educated and prepared for the ever changing
competitive Global environment.
Safeguard
democracy with a strong parliamentary system that
is robust and can withstand the pressures of single-issue
lobby groups. Weak government leads to a weak economy and
poor representation and imagery overseas, thus creating
an insecure future for us all.
